Emla® Cream is a local anaesthetic used to numb the skin before minor procedures, such as injections, blood tests, tattoos, piercings, or aesthetic treatments. It contains a combination of lidocaine (2.5%) and prilocaine (2.5%), which work together to block pain signals in the treated area.
It’s widely used in both clinical and cosmetic settings for adults and children.
What Is Emla Cream Used For?
- Blood tests and cannula insertion
- Vaccinations or injections
- Minor dermatological or cosmetic procedures
- Tattooing or laser hair removal
- Pre-treatment numbing for intimate or aesthetic care
It provides temporary local anaesthesia, helping reduce pain, discomfort, and anxiety around procedures.
- Apply a thick layer of cream to the affected area
- Cover with an occlusive dressing (if provided)
- Leave on for 60 minutes before the procedure
- Remove the dressing and wipe away the cream just before treatment
Do not use on broken or irritated skin unless advised by a prescriber.
