Propecia® is a prescription-only tablet containing finasteride 1mg, designed to treat male pattern hair loss (androgenetic alopecia). It works by lowering levels of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) — the hormone responsible for hair follicle shrinkage — to slow hair loss and support regrowth in the scalp.
It is taken once daily and is suitable for men aged 18–41 with mild to moderate hair loss at the crown or mid-scalp.
How Does Propecia Work?
Propecia works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha reductase, which converts testosterone into DHT. By lowering DHT levels in the scalp, it helps prevent further hair follicle shrinkage — leading to a slower rate of hair loss and potential regrowth.
It is most effective for hair loss at the crown and mid-scalp, and less effective for receding hairlines.
